Going to go through a little Theology today
Hope for you to see
that Jesus Christ is God

I realize that probably everyone seated in this auditorium

believes that Jesus Christ is God
But one day
someone is going to tell you
or your children
That Jesus was not God

You may even come to the conclusion, yourself
“What does it matter, as long as you believe?”

That is probably one of the most damning statements of our time.

What does it matter what church you belong to, as long as you believe?

What does it matter what Bible you use, as long as you believe?

What does it matter if something is sinful or not, as long as you believe?

What does it matter if you are Baptized or not, as long as you believe?

What does it matter if you are a Member of a church or not as long as you believe?

What does it matter if you Tithe or not as long as you believe?

What does it matter if you come to Sunday School or not, as long as you believe?

What does it matter if you are a witness for Christ or not, as long as you believe?

What does it matter if everyone else goes to Hell or not, as long as you go to Heaven?

The problem is this,

If you do not do what Jesus says to do
you may not be
one of His own.

If you are one of His own
and still do not do
what He says to do,

you certainly are not
the believer
you think you are.

And,

There is no point doing
what He says to do
If He is not God.

If He is just another man
like you and me

If He is just another prophet
like Moses or Elijah
who made their own mistakes

If He is just another martyr
looking for a cause
to involve us in

If He is just another person
minding our business
instead of His own.

But He is not just another whatever
Jesus Christ is God in the Flesh
The Emanuel, God with us.

John 1:1 
"In the beginning
was the Word,
and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God."

We can readily see
that the Word is God.
God is the Word.

So …

The first question then, should be ….
Who is the Word?
Because the Word is God

Please look at John 1.14

John 1:14 
"And the Word was made flesh,
and dwelt among us,

Now we are making some headway
Now we are getting to the bottom of the matter

John 1:14 

"And the Word was made flesh,
and dwelt among us,
(and we beheld his glory,
the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,)
full of grace and truth."

The Word was born of flesh
The Word being God
looks like an ordinary man

but of course,

He is no ordinary man
because the Word is God.
God and man.

Everyone at the time
saw the Word
and He had the same Glory as God the Father

He is the same as God the Father.
It also says
that He is the only begotten of the Father.

Go back to John 1.1 please …

John 1:1 
"In the beginning
was the Word,
and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God."

There are some
whose tribe is on the increase
who call themselves Christians
who do not trust in Jesus Christ as God

They take John 1.1
and begin to manipulate it.

They do not understand Greek Grammar
and they place an indefinite article “a”
in front of God
and let it read …

John 1:1 
"In the beginning
was the Word,
and the Word was with God,
and the Word was <’a’> God."

They do this
to eliminate the problem TO THEM
of Jesus Christ being God
the same as God the Father
so they relegate Him to being “a” God

This sounds like to me
a much bigger problem

Now we have a pluralistic God

where Jesus Christ
is only one
of the many
“a” God
but it plainly states in John 1.14

John 1:14 

“ … (and we beheld his glory,
the glory
as of the only begotten
of the Father,)
full of grace
and truth."

Jesus Christ is the Only Begotten of the Father.
God the Father …
did not have a bunch of Gods
Jesus Christ is His only Son

This problem with Jesus

being the Son of God

and thereby

making himself equal

to God

is a little hard to understand for you and I

but

look at what

the people of the day

thought about this

they knew what this meant

they understood fully what this meant

Please turn to John 5.18

John 5:18 

"Therefore the Jews

sought the more

to kill him,

because he not only

had broken the sabbath,

but said also

that God was his Father,

making himself equal

with God."

These Jews understood the language

These Jews understood the Theology

These Jews understood exactly what this meant

That to be the Son of God

meant emphatically

that Jesus was God Himself.

We ought to not listen to what man thinks

We ought to listen to the Scriptures,

The actual Word of God

The real Utterances of God Himself.

John 10:27 

"My sheep hear my voice,

and I know them,

and they follow me:"

John 10:28 

"And I give unto them eternal life;

and they shall never perish,

neither shall any man pluck them

out of my hand."

John 10:29 

"My Father,

which gave them me,

is greater than all;

and no man

is able to pluck them

out of my Father's hand."

John 10:30 

"I and my Father are one."

John 10:31 

"Then the Jews

took up stones again

to stone him."

John 10:32 

"Jesus answered them,

Many good works

have I showed you

from my Father;

for which of those works

do ye stone me?"

John 10:33 

"The Jews answered him, saying,

For a good work

we stone thee not;

but for blasphemy;

and because that thou,

being a man,

makest thyself God."

The Jews fully understood the words …

“I and My Father are One.”

This did not mean only

in full agreement

This did not mean only

in one accord

This did not mean only

they were in harmony

on the same sheet of music

This did not mean only

they were traveling

the same concourse

The Jews

who perfectly understood

the full meaning of the words

in their language

that when Jesus Christ was saying,

“I and My Father are One.”

That He meant

that He was telling them

that He and the Father both

were God.

Brought close by the Blood of Christ

Eph 2:13 

"But now in Christ Jesus

ye who sometimes

were far off

are made nigh

by the blood of Christ."

Jesus Christ brought us

in close

by His Blood

Whose Blood?

Jesus’ Blood

Redemption & Forgiveness by the Blood of Christ

Col 1:12 

"Giving thanks

unto the Father,

which hath made us meet

to be partakers

of the inheritance

of the saints

in light:"

Col 1:13 

"Who hath delivered us

from the power of darkness,

and hath translated us

into the kingdom

of his dear Son:"

Col 1:14 

"In whom we have redemption

through his blood,

even the forgiveness

of sins:"

Jesus Christ

has given us redemption

from slavery to sin

and

has forgiven us

of our sin

through His own Blood

We have redemption and forgiveness

through the blood of Jesus Christ

We were purged from our sins and brought close to God by the blood of Jesus Christ.

Heb 9:12 

"Neither by the blood of goats

and calves,

but by his own blood

he entered in once

into the holy place,

having obtained

eternal redemption for us."

Heb 9:13 

"For if the blood

of bulls and of goats,

and the ashes of an heifer

sprinkling the unclean,

sanctifieth to the purifying

of the flesh:"

Heb 9:14 

"How much more

shall the blood of Christ,

who through the eternal Spirit

offered himself

without spot to God,

purge your conscience

from dead works

to serve the living God?"

The sacrifices of animals

will not save anyone

but the Blood of Jesus Christ

when He offered Himself to God the Father

took away all the dead works of sin

and brought us in close to serve God the Father

How was all this accomplished?

By the Blood of Jesus Christ.

Redeemed from the slavery of sin

by the Blood of Jesus Christ.

1 Pet 1:18 

"Forasmuch as ye know

that ye were not redeemed

with corruptible things,

as silver and gold,

from your vain conversation

received by tradition

from your fathers;"

1 Pet 1:19 

"But with the precious blood of Christ,

as of a lamb

without blemish

and without spot:"

The blood of Jesus Christ redeemed us from the slavery of sin

and even sin itself.

Cleansed from the stain of sin,

by the blood of Jesus Christ

1 John 1:7 

"But if we walk in the light,

as he is in the light,

we have fellowship

one with another,

and the blood of Jesus Christ

his Son

cleanseth us

from all sin."

Not only has the blood of Christ

redeemed us

forgiven us

but has cleansed us as well

How was all of this accomplished?

By Jesus Christ

when He gave His blood for us.

Now watch this verse …

please turn to Acts 20.25 …

Paul is speaking …

Acts 20:25  "And now, behold,

I know that ye all,

among whom I have gone preaching

the kingdom of God,

shall see my face no more."

Paul is leaving

and they will not see him again

this is just part of the context

but has nothing to do with my point …

Acts 20:26 

"Wherefore

I take you to record this day,

that I am pure

from the blood of all men."

Again

Paul is saying in context here

that he has been faithful

to be a witness for Christ

and that the eternal punishment

of any who go to hell

of that area of the country

are not going to be able

to blame him, Paul

Acts 20:27 

"For I have not shunned

to declare unto you

all the counsel of God."

Paul has been faithful

to tell them

everything that he knows

leaving out nothing

especially the next verse

Acts 20:28 

"Take heed therefore

unto yourselves,

and to all the flock,

over the which the Holy Ghost

hath made you overseers,

to feed the church of God,

which he hath purchased

with his own blood."

The men

to whom Paul is speaking

are to do the same as he did

and not shun

to tell the people

whom they pastor

all of what they know

They are to feed the Church of God

He does not use the word Christ or Jesus

but they are to feed the Church of God

This is not a little “g”

which Church

God purchased with His own Blood

it does not use the word Jesus

it does not use the word Christ

it does not use the word “Word”

it does not use the word Saviour

it does not use the words Son of God

it purposefully uses the word God

it says here in this sacred book

that God’s blood

was used

to redeem man

from slavery

to sin

that God’s blood

was used

to pay for the sins

of man

that God’s blood

was used

to forgive man

of his sins

that God’s blood

was used

to cleanse man

of all his sins

How could this be???

It could only happen

if God

and Jesus

are the same.

Col 1:15 

"Who is the image

of the invisible God,

the firstborn

of every creature:"

Heb 1:3 

"Who being the brightness

of his glory,

and the express image

of his person …"

Phil 2:5 

"Let this mind be in you,

which was also in Christ Jesus:"

Phil 2:6 

"Who, being in the form of God,

thought it not robbery

to be equal with God:"

Phil 2:7 

"But made himself

of no reputation,

and took upon him

the form of a servant,

and was made

in the likeness of men:"

Jesus was the form of God

but by His own power and might

decided to become the likeness of men

to serve as a servant

and notice

in verse 6

was equal with God

Equal means the same, identical

3 + 3 = 6

3 + 3 is the same as 6

called by different words

but are the same

Col 2:9 

"For in him

dwelleth all the fulness

of the Godhead bodily."

Jesus is the fullness of the Godhead

There are some that say

that Trinity

does not appear

in the Bible

the word does not appear

but the Trinity sure does

It is the Godhead

if the verse was talking

John 5:23 

"That all men

should honour the Son,

even as they honour the Father.

He that honoureth not the Son

honoureth not the Father

which hath sent him."

What ever honor

that is due to the Father

is due to the Son

Whatever good

that can be said of the Father

must be said of the Son

Sounds like to me

that the Son and the Father are the same

Both are God

Unless you are wanting to start a new religion

and all of this does not fit you plans

John 1:2  "The same was in the beginning with God."

John 20:26 

"And after eight days

again his disciples were within,

and Thomas with them:

then came Jesus,

the doors being shut,

and stood in the midst,

and said,

Peace be unto you."

John 20:27 

"Then saith he to Thomas,

Reach hither thy finger,

and behold my hands;

and reach hither thy hand,

and thrust it into my side:

and be not faithless,

but believing."

John 20:28 

"And Thomas answered and said

unto him,

My Lord and my God."

Throughout the divine work every thing is gradually revealed;

An angel first declares the glorious event

Christ is risen

The empty sepulchre confirms the women's report.

Christ is risen

Christ's appearance to Mary Magdalene shewed that he was alive;

the disciples at Emmaus proved that it was at the least the spirit of Christ

To the eleven shewed the reality of his body

and

the conviction given to Thomas proved it the self-same body that had been crucified.

Everything is explained gradually,

Adding precept to precept, verse to verse

that they whole of the Scriptures

is used to prove

Christ has come

Christ has lived without sin

Christ has died for sin

Christ has risen from the dead

Christ has gone to the Father to make intercession for the saints

Christ is coming again

Christ can do all of this, because Christ is God.

John 20:29 
"Jesus saith unto him,
Thomas,
because thou hast seen me,
thou hast believed:
blessed are they
that have not seen,
and yet have believed."

Have you fully trusted in the Son of God?
Are you saved?
Are you assured of Heaven?
