Scripture

Sing His Praise

Psa 96:1 "O sing unto the LORD a new song: sing unto the LORD, all the earth."
Psa 96:2 "Sing unto the LORD,

Sing for His Praise
"But preacher, I don't sing very good!"
"We noticed!"

But do you sing for us
or do you sing for God?

Does God think you can sing?
God is not looking for a beautiful voice.
God is looking for a sincere soul, that will praise him.
God created music for His praise.

And according to this verse
he expects us to use it His creation.

Gal 1:10 "… do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ."

Sing by Faith

Heb 11:6 "…without faith it is impossible to please … God…."

Sing by Faith
whether you can sing or not.

What do you care
if others are so small in their growth to the extent that they should deride your singing.

Some will say,
"Praise of God is a personal matter."
They are right.
It should be.
But God is not very personal to you, if your praise of Him is dwarfted by your fear of what man will say.

Heb 13:6 "The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me."
Mark 8:38 "Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels."

Don't be ashamed
to praise the Lord

I am not talking about
getting up in front of everyone and attempting to sing and possibly looking very foolish.

I am talking about
singing of God to yourself,
singing of God while you work,
singing of God with others,
singing of God with exuberance,
singing of God with excitement,
singing of God with praise,

Bless His Name

Psa 96:2 "Sing unto the LORD, bless his name…"

What do you mean, preacher?
All hair the power of Jesus' name
Let angels prostrate fall;
Bring forth the royal diadem
And crown Him Lord of all.

That is one of the most inspiring & triumphant songs
in the English Language.

I understand it has been translated
to at least 65 other languages as well.

He originally wrote 18 verses.

Show His Salvation

Psa 96:2 "Sing unto the LORD, bless his name; show forth his salvation from day to day."

Show the Lord's Salvation
from day to day.

That means
today and tomorrow.

Are you saved?
Well, let it show.

There are many Christians
who know they are saved, but who lead defeated lives.

They tried all this stuff
and it didn't work for them.

They tried to praise God
and it fell flat on its face.

Quit doing it in the flesh.
Stay at it.

Begin to allow the Lord
to express Himself in you.

Live in His power.
Under his authority.

Declare His Glory

Psa 96:3 "Declare his glory among the heathen,

What are you doing
about foreign missions?

When we take-up special offerings,
don't you feel great?
Don't you want to do more?

Express His Greatness

Psa 96:4 "For the LORD is great, and greatly to be praised:

God is great
and however great He is that is the extent to which we ought to praise Him.

If He is a little God
we ought to praise Him little.

But if he is a great God
we ought to praise Him greatly.

Respect His Status

Psa 96:4 "For the LORD is great, and greatly to be praised: he is to be feared above all gods."
Psa 96:5 "For all the gods of the nations are idols: but the LORD made the heavens."

In this country
we are expected to respect everyone's religion.

Well I don't mind telling you, I don't.
I don't expect you to and I don't myself.

If their religion
will send folks to Hell and cause the Respect of God to be placed on Idols and men, then I don't respect it and I don't care who knows it.

If you are worried about my disrespect
of other religions and gods and superstitions and idols and pagan practices and cults and false religions, Then you don't have a very firm grip on what the Bible teaches.

Now listen to me closely
I don't know if I have ever told you this before.

About 2 years ago
the local school district invited a group of ministers to a meeting to discuss the teaching of Creationism in Public Schools. I went and this is what happened.
They paid homage to the preachers and let them say what they wanted to say, then ignored everything and did what they wanted.
But that is not the point of me telling this story. They called on a man
who has since died, and since he is dead I will not call his name. But he was a local American Indian Spiritual Leader. And he began to tell us about the Religion of the American Indian, which was full of idols and superstition.
They may have felt like they needed to respect this man's religion but I did not and I do not and God being my helper I will not.
I am giving no homage to idols, whether it is Buddah or Ra or the Great Spirit or the inner self, or even some false christ.

2 Th 1:7 "And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,"
2 Th 1:8 "In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:"

You folks that expect me to respect other religions,
are the ones that are not secure in what the Bible says. You are still on the ropes and listening to the whiners and criers who have somewhat against the things said and done around here.

Endure me for a few more minutes on this point.
I do respect the fact that people believe differently than what the Bible says. I Respect that they believe differently, but I do not respect their beliefs.

Anyone can believe
what ever they want, but no one is allowed to preach and teach falsely about God.

Realize His Honor & Majesty

Psa 96:6 "Honour and majesty are before him:

God has surrounding Him
everything honorable,
everything excellent.

Realize His Strength & Beauty

Psa 96:6 "Honour and majesty are before him: strength and beauty are in his sanctuary."

He has Strength and Beauty
God has Strength in His Ability for battle, in His Judgment to lift the fallen, to renew the weary, to bring all creation to a standstill.

But He is not all Strength
He has and is Beauty, as well.

When we think of Strength
we think of sturdy
we think of something made for stout and not necessarily something of beauty.

But God
is Strong and Beautiful

Give Him Glory & Strength

Psa 96:7 "Give unto the LORD, O ye kindreds of the people, give unto the LORD glory and strength."

Give the things
we are proudest of,
we count as our strength

Think you are smart
give him your intelligence.

Think you are talented
give him your talents.

Think you are handsome
talk to me.
NO. Give him your beauty.

Think you are strong
give God your strength.

Think you are above the rest
give Him your pride.

Think you are wise
give Him your wisdom

Because of His Name

Psa 96:8 "Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name: bring an offering, and come into his courts."

Give an expression of majesty towards His name
Give an offering.
Give more than is due.
We owe God a tithe, give Him more than that and I am not just talking about money.

Give
a personal visit,
a portion of time,
a particle of your attention.

Give Worship in Beauty of Holiness

Psa 96:9 "O worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness:

God's great beauty
lies in His holiness.

God is
holy
pure
moral
separated
never makes excuses for not being that way

God is
totally modest

never removing clothes
To impress someone - He has no use for your opinion.
To participate in a fashion - He has no use for fashion.
To be causal - He cares nothing for dressing down
To be comfortable - He is not into comfort.
To accommodate the current heat wave - He lived in a area where it is much hotter than here and stayed totally modest.

Give Respect

Psa 96:9 "O worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness: fear before him, all the earth."

Give Witness of His Ruling Authority

Psa 96:10 "Say among the heathen that the LORD reigneth: the world also shall be established that it shall not be moved:

We have already spoken of Missions to the Heathen
but let me say that the heathen or still heathen.

I don't say that
to look down on them, but to remind you and I that they are not OK spiritually.

Heathen die every day
and go to Hell.

Give Witness of His Judging Authority

"…he shall judge the people righteously."

God will judge
all the lost in perfect righteousness.

And at the Judgment Seat of Christ
Jesus will judge the saved or Christians in perfect righteousness as to their rewards.

Don't hinder Joy of the inanimate objects

Psa 96:11 "Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad; let the sea roar, and the fulness thereof."
Psa 96:12 "Let the field be joyful, and all that is therein: then shall all the trees of the wood rejoice"

Oh if we could only see the things of the earth as praising God.
The shining of the heavens.
The crashing of the sea waves.
The howl of the forests with the wind rushing through the trees.

What are they Joyful about?

He is coming again

Psa 96:13 "Before the LORD: for he cometh,
Phil 4:5 "…The Lord is at hand."
James 5:8 "…the coming of the Lord draweth nigh."
Mat 24:44 "Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh."
1 Cor 4:5 "Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness…"
Titus 2:13 "Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;"

He is coming again to Judge all things

"…for he cometh to judge the earth…"
Mat 25:31 "When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:"
Mat 25:32 "And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:"

He is coming again to Judge in a fair, honest, moral way.

"…he shall judge the world with righteousness, and the people with his truth."

Don't miss the fact
that there is a judgment.

Heb 9:27 "And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:"

His promise to the saved.

John 14:1 "Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me."
John 14:2 "In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you."
John 14:3 "And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also."
