Parable of the Sower
Some are saved,
but fall away Scripture Mat 13:23 "But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty." Text Mat 13:23 "But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it…"

Wayside (Packed) Ground Mat 13:4 "And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up:" Illustration my wife's Grandfather came out one time to help her get a garden started. He told her to plant where there has not been any animals tramping around, even during the season when nothing is growing in the Garden. He told me once that when he turned his land over for planting and rowed the field that he could take his bare hand and run it into the row, sometimes up to his elbow. I pointed out this was sandy soil, we were going to plow the ground. He said that this would still not loosen the soil enough, for the best results.
Top Stony Ground
Mat 13:5 "Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth:" Mat 13:6 "And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away."
Top Thorny Ground
Mat 13:7 "And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them:"
Top Good Ground
Mat 13:8 "But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold." Mat 13:9 "Who hath ears to hear, let him hear." Illustration Around the Church is a field with an average soil depth of about 1 foot. In some places it is a little deeper and in other places it is a little less. It is very easy to see where each of these places are by watching the crop come up. In the places where the soil is deepest the crop does better. In the places where the soil is only a few inches the crop does worse.

Mat 13:19 "When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side." Acts 16:31 "And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house." Acts 2:38 "Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." Acts 10:44 "While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word." Acts 10:45 "And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost." Acts 10:46 "For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter," Acts 10:47 "Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?" Acts 10:48 "And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days." Acts 4:12 "Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." There is something wrong when a preacher will not preach what he believes. Sounds a little like a Respecter of Persons. Sounds a little like a Tickler of Ears. Sounds a little like "I don't want to lose any of my Tithers" Sounds a little like a "Preacher of Smooth Things"

Mat 13:22 "He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful." John 5:24 "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life." But look at the rest of the verse … Mat 13:22 "He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful." How many times have I heard "I don't buy Lotto Tickets just for me, I have promised God that if I win I will give him all the way from 10% to 90%," depending of course on how much they win. Don't look now, but those Lotto Tickets in your wallet have vines growing off them and they are slowly growing out of your pocket and up your back and before long you will have them wrapped around your neck. They will not kill you, but they will choke the Lord out of your life. How many times have I heard, "I have to work towards getting ahead" "I have a family to care for, and then they will quote the Bible to me… 1 Tim 5:8 "But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel."
Top Good Ground & Receiving the Word

Mat 9:36 "But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd." Mat 9:37 "Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few;" Mat 9:38 "Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest." 1 Cor 3:6 "I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase." 1 Cor 3:7 "So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase." 1 Cor 3:8 "Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour."
