Yesterday's Manna
has Worms

Yesterday's Victories will not support Today or Tomorrow

Exo 16:14 "And when the dew that lay was gone up, behold, upon the face of the wilderness there lay a small round thing, as small as the hoar frost on the ground."
Exo 16:15 "And when the children of Israel saw it, they said one to another, It is manna: for they wist not what it was. And Moses said unto them, This is the bread which the LORD hath given you to eat."

God called it His Gift to His people
Moses called it, "the bread which the Lord hath given"
The people called it "manna"
Manna strictly translated, means "What is it?"

Exo 16:16 "This is the thing which the LORD hath commanded, Gather of it every man according to his eating, an omer for every man, according to the number of your persons; take ye every man for them which are in his tents."

Everyone is welcome to take as much as they need
Take for yourself
Take for those in your family
Take for those in your household
God supplies for the needs of His people
No need for me to be overly concerned.
No need for me to worry.
Mat 6:25 "Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?"

The verse said

"take ye every man for them which are in his tents."
Exo 16:17 "And the children of Israel did so, and gathered, some more, some less."
Exo 16:18 "And when they did mete he that gathered much had nothing over, and he that gathered little had no lack; they gathered every man according to his eating."
Exo 16:19 "And Moses said, Let no man leave of it till the morning."
Exo 16:20 "Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto Moses; but some of them left of it until the morning, and it bred worms, and stank: and Moses was wroth with them."
Exo 16:21 "And they gathered it every morning, every man according to his eating: and when the sun waxed hot, it melted."

Intro

The Israelites were in the wilderness without food and water.
The people had been griping about their lack of food.
The Lord sent quail for them to eat, but this was just going to be a one-time thing.
The very next day, the Lord sent Manna

Manna

Manna was to be their food staple for the next 40 years.
The Lord wanted the Israelites to learn to count on Him for their food and welfare.
On the other hand, we today, don't want to go to God daily for our food, we want to hurry up and stack it and then live off of what we saved.

Isa 55:1 "Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price."
Isa 55:2 "Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not? hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness."

Come to the Lord, why struggle.

Eph 1:19 "And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,"
Eph 1:20 "Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,"
Eph 1:21 "Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:"
Eph 1:22 "And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,"
Eph 1:23 "Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all."

God has laid up spiritual blessings for us in his Son the Lord Jesus; but requires us to draw them out and fetch them by prayer.
All of us need to pray no matter how little or much we may have or need.
God wants us to come to Him, look to Him, trust in Him, for all we need today

Yesterday's Manna has worms

Let me show you how unwilling we are to trust in the Lord for our daily needs.

Exo 16:19 "And Moses said, Let no man leave of it till the morning."
Exo 16:20 "Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto Moses; but some of them left of it until the morning, and it bred worms, and stank: and Moses was wroth with them."

Do you see what man does?
He wants to horde up all the manna he can get today, so he will not have to depend on the Lord in the morning.
He wants to horde up all the manna he can get today, so he will not have to get up early and to get his in the morning.
He wants to horde up all the manna he can get today, so he can get a little extra tomorrow as well, because the Lord may not let it fall the next day and man will have plenty for himself and maybe even sell some to the others.

But what happens

The Manna does not keep.
The Manna goes rotten.
The Manna becomes worm eaten.

What does this teach us?

Yesterday's Manna Has Worms
We ought to be prudent and diligent in providing food for our families and households and those around us.
We are aware that we are to provide food and clothes for those outside our families.
We should work quietly eating our own bread.
Not the bread of deceitfulness.
Not the bread of Idleness
We should also be content with enough.
Enough is enough.
More than enough is too much.
If you gather enough, there is none left over.
If you gather enough, there is no lack.

Depend upon the providence of God

The Israelites were to sleep quietly in their bed even when they had nothing for their pot for tomorrow.
Even when they had nothing in their tent for tomorrow.
Even when they had nothing in their camp for tomorrow.
Trust in the Lord for their daily bread.

The Lord's disciples asked of Him

Would you teach us to pray like John taught his disciples to pray?
Jesus said to pray LIKE this.
don't pray this, but pray LIKE this.

"Our Father Who art in Heaven hallowed by thy name Thy Kingdom come Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven give us this day our daily bread."

Not bread for next month.
Not bread for next year.
Not bread for Y2K.
Not bread for retirement.
But give us this day our daily bread.
Did you ever think that it was surer and it was safer in God's Storehouse, than in your own?
Also, did you ever think that it would be sweeter and fresher as well?

You can't store up the blessings of God

Yesterday's rain was wonderful, but we will need another tomorrow.
Some will say . . .
"Well yesterday, I prayed a full hour, so today I'm caught up and don't need to pray."
Yesterday's Manna Has Worms
Some will say.
"I read through my Bible last year, I know what it says, and I am caught up on my reading the Word of God"
Last year's Manna Has Worms

Acts 17:11 "These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so."

Some will say .
"I tithed last month on everything that I made and even put in a little extra, so I am caught up for this month"
Last Month's Manna Has Worms
Some will say.
"I had a dream once and God told me that he was going to bless me in a special way and He did, so I know that God will always care for me and I am not going to bother Him about it"
Last Night's Dream Has Worms
Some will say.
"I went to church every Sunday last year and I just don't want to go right now. I am caught up for a while"

Heb 3:13 "But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin."

Yesterday's Manna Has Worms
Some will say.
"I surrendered my life to Christ years ago and he hasn't said anything to me since so I am not going to bother with all that stuff right now"
Yesterday's Manna Has Worms

1 Cor 15:31 ". . . I die daily."

Some will say .
"I have given out more tracts than many of the rest of you. I have been a good witness for Christ over the years but now it is time I rested."

Acts 5:42 "And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ."

Yesterday's Manna has Worms
And whatever our station or rank in life, we should seek to make Him known, and to glorify his name.

Acts 3:2 "And a certain man lame from his mother's womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple;"
Acts 3:4 "And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us."
Acts 3:5 "And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them."
Acts 3:6 "Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk."

And the man said, No, I have been coming here for many years and I will continue as I have done in the past.
I am going to beg for the mercy of others.
What would we tell him?

Let's look on to Christ for better things, for more blessings, for more light, for more love for more of Him to care for our daily needs.

Faithfulness

Everyone here has a duty to the rest we may have performed that duty amazingly for the last 15 years, but.
Yesterday's Manna has Worms

Heb 10:25 "Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching."

Jesus said

Give us this day our daily bread.
He did not want to eat yesterday's wormy-bread.
He did not want to worry about tomorrow's tension-bread.
He was just concerned about gathering the provision for today.
The Father knows best.
What does He have for me tomorrow?
It will be good enough.
Everyone needs to make plans for tomorrow, but no one needs to connive for tomorrow, no one needs to worry about tomorrow, no one needs to force God's plan for tomorrow.
Live in the present.
Enjoy the provision of the present.
It is all right to think about tomorrow, to plan for tomorrow, but never connive, never force, never demand your rights, never tempt the Lord thy God.
